Vicki Carpel Miller is co-founder and Director of Vicarious Trauma Institute. As a Registered Nurse and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, she specializes in the practice of Collaborative Divorce, the treatment of Vicarious Trauma, divorce-related issues and blended families. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Minnesota (1974) and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (1989). 

Vicki teamed up with Dr. Ellie Izzo to create the Vicarious Trauma Institute, fulfilling their lifelong dream of healing the helping professional.

Based on Dr. Izzo’s book, The Bridge To I Am: Rapid Advance Psychotherapy, Vicki and Ellie launched the Vicarious Trauma Institute and went on to co-author another book, Day After Day The Price You Pay: Managing Your Second-Hand Shock^TM and the accompanying Second-Hand Shock Workbook to further assist helping professionals.

Vicki is an internationally recognized presenter and trainer in the field of Collaborative Practice, training family lawyers, licensed mental health and financial professionals world-wide in the Collaborative Divorce Full Interdisciplinary Team Model of Collaborative Practice with Collaborative Divorce Team Trainings. 

She is co-founder of the Collaborative Divorce Professionals of Arizona and functions as a Divorce Coach, Child Specialist and/or Team Manager in Collaborative Divorce files.

She is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, American Counseling Association, a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and an Advanced Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. Vicki has received advanced training in family mediation, narrative mediation, interest-based negotiation, Collaborative Law and Collaborative Divorce Interdisciplinary Team Practice.
