Vicarious Trauma Institute
Dr. Ellie Izzo is co-founder and Director of the Vicarious Trauma Institute. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been in clinical practice since 1982. She received her Master’s Degree from Long Island University and her Ph.D. in Health and Human Service from Columbia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Izzo is a pioneer in the area treatment of Vicarious Trauma, a serious problem experienced by millions of professionals in the human service field. The treatment model that she developed is called the Rapid Advance Process — a standardized, five-session, brief model of counseling.
Ellie Izzo is the co-founder and a core trainer with the Vicarious Trauma Institute. She also serves as a Divorce Coach, Child Specialist and/or Team Manager in the process of Collaborative Divorce, whereby a team of professionals help a couple move through divorce respectfully, without litigating.
Vicki Carpel Miller is co-founder and Director of Vicarious Trauma Institute. As a Registered Nurse and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, she specializes in the practice of Collaborative Divorce, the treatment of Vicarious Trauma, divorce-related issues, and blended families.
Vicki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Vicki Carpel Miller
In addition to co-founding the Vicarious Trauma Institute, Dr. Izzo and Ms. Carpel Miller have published a book abour Vicarious Trauma titled, Day after Day the Price you Pay: Managing you Second-Hand Shock.
Dr. Izzo and Ms. Carpel Miller are commited to reaching out to help professionals and laypeople find relief from the affects of Vicarious Trauma. The Vicarious Trauma Institute provides services to individuals, groups and organizations to share their wisdom, compassion and reverence for the inherent challenges faced by those who chose to serve humanity.
